Even the most careful employers can be hit with employment lawsuits, hurting the business’s reputation, exposing it to potential monetary liability, and diverting time and resources from the organization’s mission. Although no employer can immunize itself completely from these risks, following key strategies can materially reduce the likelihood of employment litigation and can mitigate costs and reputational harm from such claims. Julia Judish, an employment lawyer whose practice focuses on non-profit organizations, will address the best employment-related risk management practices for non-profit organizations. Ms. Judish will highlight critical compliance measures that employers should adopt to reduce the potential for legal violations, both in the hiring process and for current employees. The session will also cover the most important due diligence steps employers can take to identify and guard against common causes of employment claims. Attendees will learn the advantages and potential disadvantages of Employment Practices Liability Insurance. Finally, Ms. Judish will discuss alternative dispute resolution arrangements, such as arbitration and mediation, and identify the pros and cons of incorporating ADR provisions into your standard employment documentation.
