On December 16, FAR members celebrated the holidays in style at the Capital Hilton. Fun is always a component of this event as members relax while enjoying a good meal and pleasant company. Members enjoyed games and activities planned by the FAR Holiday Committee. This year the committee tried something new - they created quadrants for seating and members were "assigned" to one based on whether their name badge had a snowflake, a gingerbread cookie, a snowman, or a candy cane sticker on it. This seating method encouraged attendees to meet and get to know each other. And, what is a holiday party without a game or two? Games included "Jeopardy", "Name That Tune", and "How Well Do You Know Your Board of Directors". For the latter, fun facts about each board member were read out loud and attendees had to guess the correct board member it referred to in order to win a prize. In addition to games, our
generous Resource Members brought door prizes for our Nonprofit Member attendees. Names were drawn throughout the luncheon and prizes included gift cards to restaurants and stores, tickets to sporting events, and there was even an Apple Watch!
Barry Gurley's musical talents provided a festive atmosphere with holiday music and and he also played songs for the "Name That Tune" game.

Rachel Thaler Washington Humane Society |
Each December, FAR selects an organization in the DC Metro area to be the charitable giving recipient at the holiday luncheon. This year, FAR selected the
Washington Humane Society and invited Rachel Thaler,
Special Events and Development Coordinator, to share the organization's mission with FAR members. During her time at the podium, she also expressed her gratitude to FAR members for their generosity - the "giving table" set up at the luncheon was overflowing with items on the WHS wish list!

In light of supporting an animal focused charity this year, Susan Medick,
FAR Chair, and Wes Tomer,
Past Chair 2010-11, thought it would be fun to have a table set up for members who wanted to share a picture of their pets. After seeing the number of pictures that came in, we have many well-loved cats and dogs in our FAR "family"!
Thank you to all our FAR members for making this year's event a wonderful way to enjoy the winter season! Happy New Year!
